One of the lesser known hill stations in Maharashtra, the beauty of Kamshet lies in its obliviousness. Lying close to the popular hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala, it is a true delight for the nature lover to take a ramble across the untrodden paths of Kamshet. Once an important trade enroute, the beautiful hillock city of Kamshet is not only one of the pristine places lying in the laps of nature but is a huge cauldron of one of the most colorful people in India.

Owing to its proximity to Khandala and Lonavala, and with a distance of some 165 kilometers from the city of Mumbai, you can easily reach Kamshet by driving your own car across the fine roads and highways connecting Mumbai and Pune. However if the tiresome driving ordeal turns you down, there is always the incessant bus and shuttle car services available. A magnificent gem adorning the Western Ghats, Kamshet lies almost 2200 feet above the sea level. Filled with lush and undulating fields, small hillocks the place is criss crossed by innumerable brooks and creeks. You can also take a panoramic view of the many turquoise lakes that are strewn across the place.
Apart from the natural splendor of the place which captivates tourists from far and near, Kamshet is also richly manifested with ancient temples and Buddha caves. The hills along this route teem with ancient cave temples, medieval hill fortresses and hill stations belonging to the long lost colonial times. Some of the major attractions in and around Kamshet include the historic caves at Karla, Bhaja and Bhedsa, the Osho ashram near Pune, many historic buildings and some ancient Buddhist cave temples which have earned accolades for its resplendent statues of the Buddha. Apart from these, Kamshet is a haven for paragliding and has many flying clubs.
