Matheran Maharashtra is a beautiful hill station, situated at a height of 800 meters. It is a popular tourist attraction in Maharashtra. Maharashtra Matheran is 170 kilometers away from to the east of the city of Mumbai. Matheran became popular with its founding in 1850. A day or two at Matheran will prove to be very relaxing and rejuvenating. No permission is granted to motor vehicles to enter the town. The trip from Neral to Matheran on the Toy Train is an experience in itself. The journey up is really intoxicating.
The best time to visit Matheran is September-June. From Neral, the rail racks wind up a distance of 20 kilometers to reach Matheran Railway Station. An Entry Fee of Rs.25/- is needed to enter the town. Opposite to the railway station is the Tourist Office. On Mahatma Gandhi Marg, the GPO is located. The view of the sunrise and sunset are the main attractions of Matheran. The main points to view these spectacular sights are Panorama Point, Alexandra Point, Monkey Point, Porcupine Point and Louisa Point.
For accommodation, there are many hotels there. Reservations should be made in advance. Some of the places where one can stay according to one's budget include Hotel Rangoli, Hanjar House, Hope Hall Hotel, MTDC Holiday Camp, Hotel Preeti, Rugby Hotel, Regal Hotel and Usha Ascot. The dining and other facilities are good and the experience at the hotels supplements the great view of Matheran.
