A pristine beach away from the public eye Murud-Janjira, Maharashtra offers the much coveted seclusion that one looks for in a secluded sea resort. Amidst swaying palms , betel coconut trees Murud is one of the most popular weekend destinations for the residents of Maharashtra and Goa. Located in the Raigarh district, Murud-Janjira, Maharashtra is just 45 km from Alibag. A unique village nestled in the lap of nature, Murud attracts a lot of visitors every week end.

The fort Janjira is one of the few sea forts in Maharashtra. Built within the sea the fort could not be destroyed by either Shivaji or the British. One can notice as many as 19 buruj in the fort. Every buruj is equipped with a huge gun constructed to protect the sea fort from the invaders. The fort also has two water tanks and some tombs inside it. Built by Burhankhan the Janjira fort at Murud is an architectural genius by itself. To the north west of Janjira fort lies the Padma durg. Built by Shivaji Padma durg is also a great fort. However it is not as grand as the Janjira fort.
