A year round favorite holiday destination with the tourists, Conoor though is at its best during the winter. Post-monsoons, the period from October to March are considered usually the best time to visit Conoor. However, thinking of a short weekend getaway, especially those coming from Bangalore is also a great idea that has a lot of takers nowadays.

Nearly 300 km from Bangalore and 110 km from Coimbatore that incidentally is the nearest airport, one can reach Conoor through the roads, train and air. The road journey by bus is a little difficult in patches as highways are good in certain parts where one can really zip through the roads while the same is not possible throughout the journey from Bangalore. The journey to lower Conoor through Ooty that is 18 km from the town can be undertaken by train. The journey through the hills is scenic and breathtaking. Once in Conoor, one can hire Sumos, Marutis and even auto rickshaws to visit through the town.
Staying at Conoor for a weekend getaway is not difficult as one comes across quite a number of hotels and tourist lodges. Some of the tea estates have their guest houses that too provide for a pleasant accommodation though the tariffs charged are slightly at the higher side.
A hugely popular hill station in this part of India, Conoor has plenty to charm. The green lush hills, tea plantations, gardens, stretches of manicured lawns and rose brushes, make the town an ideal weekend getaway choice. The popular Sim’s Park is a Japanese style botanical garden displaying the incredible flora of Conoor. Lamb’s Rock, a n ideal picnic spot nearby provides a fascinating view of the Burliyar Ravine and the green ghats that have come out of the Mettupalayam plains. Lady’s Canning’s Seat and Dolphin;s Nose are the other popular attractions of Conoor.
However, it is the Pasteur Institute that Conoor is quite renowned for as the manufacturer of polio vaccine. Situated opposite to Sim’s Park, this research station also figures highly on the list of academicians and researchers visiting Conoor.
