Kotagiri is an old hill station in the Nilgiri and is located at a distance of 16 km from Ooty. Kotagiri was a British hill resort of 1819 and still today is enwrapped with a pristine tranquility. The hill station is located at an altitude of 1950 m and churns out a billowing charm for the tourists.
Kotagiri enjoys a fabulous climate as it is protected by the Doddabetta range from the attack of southeast monsoon. Surrounded with impenetrable and lush green forests called “Sholas” Kotagiri is a verdant landscape in the Nilgiri range. Kotagiri lies on an open-terrace massif and the town has been built around valleys and knolls. The weather of the town is balmy and soothing.
There are several tourist attractions in Kotagiri. St. Cathedral’s Falls is a chirpy double cascade falls located on Mettupalyam Road. The source of this waterfall is the Kallar River.
Long Wood Shola is a forest reserve in Kotagiri. Visit the Rangaswamy Peak and Pillar lying from KOatagiri at adistance of 20 km. From this conical peak you will get a beautiful vista of the land.
Elk Falls is located at a distance of 7km from the town. From here you will get a spectacular panorama of the surroundings and a nice vista of the echoing Valley.
