The importance of Khwaja Sharif as it is fondly known as is very important to all the Muslims of south Asia. In fact many consider the dargah to be next to Mecca Medina in the line of religious importance. The history of Ajmer dates back to &th Century AD. Close to the dargah lies another holy places for the Hindus, Pushkar. Home to as many as two thousand temples Pushkar is the only place in the world where Brahma one of the trinity in Hinduism gets worshiped by millions. Another piece of Indo Islamic structure can be noticed at Dhai din ka Jhhopra. According to the popular legend it took only two and a half days to construct this structure. Initially a Sanskrit college built within a temple, Mohammad Ghauri remodeled it in 1193 into a grand mosque. With arched screens and minarets standing tall, this structure is n mazing piece of ancient Indian architecture. Shah jahan's Mosque and Taragarh fort are also a must visit for all those who are preparing a brisk tour to Ajmer.
Considering the religious importance of the place, Ajmer is well connected by train to many a places in Rajasthan, Gujrat and Maharashtra. Express trains like Gujrat Mail, Jodhpur Mail, Shatabdi Express and many local trains connect Ajmer to other parts of the country. You may also come to Ajmer via road from Pushkar.
